Geography
It is located in the north of the central part of the country, 109 km northwest of the city of Ouagadougou , at an altitude of 301 m above sea level [1] . The commune includes 7 urban sectors and 40 villages. The city has a large mosque. Through Yako passes the road connecting Ouagadougou and Mali .
Population
According to 2013 data, the population of the city was 24,453 people [2] . According to the 2006 census, the population of the city commune is 79,408 [3] .

Yako is known as the birthplace of Thomas Sankara , a politician and president of the country in 1983-1987.
