Biographical information

He studied in Kharkov in a private boarding house Slivitsky.

In 1863 - 1868 he studied at the St. Petersburg Conservatory in the class of A. Dreyshok (piano), N. Zaremba (theory of music). In 1869-1871 he studied in Berlin with T. Kullack (piano), R. Wurst (composition).

In 1871, he resumed the activities of the Kharkov branch of the Imperial Russian Musical Society (founded in Kharkov in 1867), headed it and the music classes under him.

In 1881, the Moscow Conservatory awarded I. I. Slatin the title of “ free artist ”.

In 1883 he reorganized music classes into a music school (now the B. N. Lyatoshinsky Kharkov Music College ) and became its first director (until 1920 ).

In 1917, he opened the Kharkov Conservatory on the basis of the Kharkov Music College (since 2004 - I.P. Kotlyarevsky Kharkov National University of Arts ) and was its director (until 1920).

He was in friendship and correspondence with P.I. Tchaikovsky.
