Biography
Early years and military service
Vladimir Elizarov was born on November 20, 1972 in the city of Kalinin (now Tver). Russian. He graduated from secondary boarding school No. 3 in Kalinin, secondary vocational technical school No. 6 with a degree in machine-tool of a wide profile. He worked at the Tver Carriage Works .
In November 1991, he was drafted into the Armed Forces . He served in a training regiment in Kovrov, Vladimir Region , then in Tambov . During the service, he mastered the specialty of a portable anti-aircraft missile complex shooter and since June 1992 he served in the anti-aircraft missile division of a motorized rifle regiment in the Group of Soviet Forces in Germany . In September 1992, Elizarov was transferred to the border troops and sent to Tajikistan , at the 12th outpost of the Moscow border detachment, located on the Tajik-Afghan border. At the border, Elizarov became a dog service instructor and took part in hostilities [1] . In Tajikistan, at that time there was a civil war ; Dushmans constantly assisted the Islamists across the border with Afghanistan [2] .
Last fight
On the morning of July 13, 1993, up to 250 militants attacked the 12th outpost of the Moscow border detachment. Among the attackers was the then-unknown terrorist Khattab .
The main objectives of the attackers were the destruction of the outpost and the creation of a bridgehead for a further large-scale attack on the Kulyab direction. In addition, the losses among the Russian military personnel, presumably, should have caused a resonance among the Russian public, which will demand the withdrawal of the entire Russian military contingent from Tajikistan, which in turn will allow to overthrow the legal government of the republic [2] .
At 4.00, a border detachment on the southeastern edge of the outpost stronghold, which included Sergeant Yelizarov, discovered stealthily approaching bandits. The outpost, which was home to 48 people (two officers, two super-conscripts, 41 soldiers and a sergeant, three of whom were from the regiment of the 201st motorized infantry division - the crew of an infantry fighting vehicle ), was alerted. The militants attacked the border guards, opening fire from mortars , mountain guns , grenade launchers and small arms (they had at least 12 machine guns, 4 recoilless guns , 5 rocket launchers, 2 mortars, and up to 30 hand grenade launchers). They knocked out an infantry fighting vehicle and disabled the SPG-9 easel grenade launcher. The chief of the border outpost, Senior Lieutenant Mikhail Mayboroda , was seriously wounded, several border guards were killed and wounded.
Elizarov was far from the barracks building, where the main forces of the border guards were defending, and took the battle first with two comrades, and after their death - he fought alone. Being wounded, Elizarov tried to break into the kennel of official dog breeding. He almost succeeded, but he was surrounded by five militants, with whom he entered into hand-to-hand combat and died in it. The militants cynically abused the body of the deceased, cutting off his head and throwing it into the aviary for dogs [1] .
In total, 22 border guards and three servicemen of the 201st division were killed in the battle, the militants lost up to 70 people and were driven back by Russian reinforcements arriving in Afghanistan. On the territory of the outpost and around it were discovered the corpses of 35 killed mercenaries. In the area where Elizarov fought with his comrades, more than 10 corpses of bandits were found, despite the fact that the fighters took many of their dead with them.
By decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 1050 of July 19, 1993 for courage and heroism shown during the performance of military duty during an incident on the Tajik-Afghan border, Sergeant Vladimir Fedorovich Elizarov was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation [1] .
Vladimir Elizarov was buried with military honors in the Dmitrov-Cherkasy Tver cemetery.
