Biography
Stig Schödin was born and raised in a working-class family working at the Brook factory in Sandviken . Like other children of his stratum, he began working at the factory immediately after graduation. For several years he stood in the pipe-rolling workshop "near the lifting device between the first and second pair of rollers." Then he felt the need to write. Having become involved in the solution of social issues, Shyodin took this topic as the leading one in all his works.
After working at the plant for ten years and completing his studies at the Brunnsvik Folkhögskola and Sigtuna public universities, he moved to Stockholm , where he worked as a journalist for Folket i Bild and Aftontidningen . In 1945 he made his debut in the poetry collection "The bomb did not burst." In 1949, his landmark poetry collection, A Particle of Soot, was published, in which the author captured his experience gained in Sandviken. For the first time in a modern poetic form, workers and their work are vividly described. This book has survived several editions. It was she who became the impetus for the creation of the Stig Shedin Society in October 1996 .
In the 1950s and beyond, the main motifs in Shedin's poems were nature, love, and criticism of society. The leading theme in his work was respect for nature and man. Shedin was considered a proletarian writer. His last collection was The Medical Book, Journey Down ( Swede. Läkebok, nedresa ), published three weeks before the author’s death, in April 1993 . The book was a success with critics.
Stig Shedin was buried at the Katarina cemetery in Stockholm.
