The chairman (speaker) of the Finnish parliament (eduscunts) ( Fin. Eduskunnan puhemies , Swede. Riksdagens talman ) is the head of the Finnish legislative branch. Elected together with vice-chairmen by secret ballot annually at the first session of Eduscunta. After the election, the elected leadership takes the oath of allegiance to humanity, the Parliament and the Government of the Republic of Finland.

The Chairman of Eduskunta plays a leading role in organizing international parliamentary cooperation (visits of international delegations, participation in interparliamentary organizations, etc.). Ranked second in the protocol for government officials after the President of Finland .
The election of an interim chairman is possible. He is elected for the term of negotiations on the formation of the government .
The Finnish Presidents K. Stolberg , L. Relander , P. Swinhuvud , K. Kallio , U. Kekkonen and S. Niinistö headed the Finnish Parliament at different times.
