National Park
Engse is one of the oldest national parks in the country, preserving the corner of old Sweden. In the 17th century, Engse consisted of two islands separated by a narrow strait. Peasants from neighboring Veringsjo had meadows on the islands. Later, the earth rose above sea level and a jumper formed between them. The park was expanded in 1988 to the current 195 ha .
Nature
A third of the island’s area is covered with forest, one of the most protected in skerries . The most common trees are maple , oak , ash . Ospreys and eagles nest on the islands. For their protection, forests are closed to visitors from February 1 to August 15 every year.
