“Naumahia” is a pool on the bank of the Kolpanka River on the northern border of the Silvia Park in the town of Gatchina, Leningrad Region . The building was built at the end of the XVIII century according to the design of Nikolay Lvov .
When carrying out construction work on the banks of the Kolpanka River at the end of the 18th century (the construction of the Farm and the Birdhouse ) N. Lvov turned his attention to the key with crystal water located near the Cascade with the Gate being built . The architect decided to build here in miniature the likeness of "Naumachia" in Syracuse - the ancient theater for the representation of naval battles (see navmachiya ). With his Naumachia, N. Lvov gave the character of an ancient ruin - the frequent decoration of landscape parks of the second half of the 18th century. The source was decorated with a granite frame, to which a stone staircase led with fragments of marble columns like an ancient ruin.
During half a century of existence, as a result of the influence of weather factors, Naumachiah decayed. In 1854 the structure was repaired - the swimming pool, terraces and steps were restored.
Subsequently, no work was carried out here. Columns collapsed, facing cracked. To date, Naumachiah is partially covered with turf and, accordingly, the view of it is covered with tall grass.
Nevertheless, Naumachia has the status of an object of cultural heritage of the Russian Federation, the code of the monument No. 4710204022
