Organization History

In the early 90s of the XX century, a group of enthusiasts in Sweden thought about holding the International Table Hockey Tournaments. There were three options for the philosophy of this sport: all mechanical hockey simulators are table hockey, table hockey is only Swedish stig and that Tournaments must be held in a limited variety of species with the identification of the Absolute Champion. In 1992, a single source broke up: the first went to look for their ways, the second created ITHF (International Table Hockey Federation), and the third WTHA [1] (World Table Hockey Association). WTHA currently uses the table hockey classification below:

Modern hockey simulators are desktop imitators of a hockey game. According to the Classic Classification of the International Non-Profit Non-Profit Organization WTHA, which holds the World and European Championships, hockey simulators are divided into 4 classes:

1. Games of Full Freedom - without control levers and motion guides

1.1. BTH - Billiards - Hockey

1.2. AIR - air hockey from different manufacturers

2. Partial Freedom Games - with control levers and (or) with motion guides

2.1. ROD - games with control levers

2.2. ETH - flippers, etc.

The classification is called Classical because it presumes, in addition to sports niches of different manufacturers, the axis of this sport is Absolute rank.

World and European Championships WTHA - ITHF participate from 12 to 20 countries from different continents.

Relationship with ITHF

Over the two decades of WTHA and ITHF's activities for the benefit of table hockey, it has repeatedly awakened, then subsided over interest in joint events in one place, at one time, under two auspices. This is probably a matter of the future.

Intellectual Property (IP). Questions

Despite registering WTHA in Europe in 2006, six years later in the United States, the District of Columbia, the city of Washington received official status as a non-profit organization World Table Hockey Association, International Inc with similar goals and objectives, extending its auspices to the USA and Canada. True, so far the American WTHA has not held a single Tournament, but it remains unclear how two international brands will coexist under the same name: will it be a conflict situation, or cooperation with going to a new level? Time will tell.

Books on the history of table hockey - to date, only 8 books on table hockey are known. Of these, three were published in the Czech Republic (namely in the Czech Republic, as an EU member, both the global ITHF and WTHA organizations are registered as INNO - International Non-Governmental Non-Profit Organizations), one each in the USA, Great Britain, Sweden, Germany and Russia. 1. "The Table Hockey Bible" (1988) Goran Agdur - Sweden. The cult work of the legend of table hockey Agdura. He made an attempt to expound not only the history, as the name implies, but the philosophy of the new sport. Brought to Russia by Moscow journalist Mikhail Margolis and translated into Russian. 2. "Oxford Encyclopedia of Board Games" (1999) David Parlett - Great Britain. A synoptic look at the very ancient and general history of board games. 3. "Billiards - Hockey, Table Hockey. Traditional game - a new sport" (2001) Jakub Hasil - Czech Republic. The first book of WTHA President Jakub Hasil. 4. "Billiards - Hockey, Table Hockey. Alternative active recreation for children and adolescents" (2001) Jakub Hasil - Czech Republic. The second book of this author. 5. "History of Table Hockey Steve Farrar" (2001) Steve Farrar - USA. Translated into Russian and in parts posted on the Internet. 6. "Billiards - Hockey, Table Hockey. From the amateur to the World titles" (2009) Jakub Hasil and Ondrej Cherny - Czech Republic. The third book of Yakub Hasil in collaboration with Ondrei Cherny. 7. "Table hockey. Methodology ”(2011) Wolfgang Hartel, Ondrei Cherny, Jakub Hasil, Dalibor Kieslink - Germany. 8. "The Entertaining History of Table Hockey" (2012) Vasily Lazarev Pargolovsky - Russia. The author’s pilot attempt to write the history of World Table Hockey, taking into account the contribution of Russia to it. Almost all of these autographed books are in our collection (except for book number 2, only an electronic version).
