Gennady Naumovich Selyutsky (born December 23, 1937 , Petrozavodsk , USSR ) ^[1] - soloist of the Mariinsky Ballet , ballet teacher , professor . Winner of the International Ballet Competition in Vienna ( 1959 ). Honored Artist of the Tajik SSR ( 1973 ). Honored Artist of the Russian Federation ( 2000 ).

Biography

In 1956, he graduated from the Leningrad Choreographic School (now the Academy of Russian Ballet named after A. Ya. Vaganova ) in the class of Fairy Ivanovna Balabina . This is in itself a unique case: the male class was led by a ballerina. She was able to instill in her pet the courageous manner of a truly Petersburg dance and outstanding acting skills.

In 1956 - 1990 - soloist of the ballet of the Leningrad State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater named after SM Kirov (at present - the Mariinsky Theater ). He began as a classical dancer of a lyric-dramatic plan, and eventually moved to mimic, playing roles.

In the Kirov Theater was the "Legend of Love." Inside the magnificent ensemble of the main characters it was impossible to take your eyes off the performer of the Vizier party. Each pose was literally minted in expressive forms of dance, producing a mad inner pressure of a court satrap with an impenetrable face. But especially stood out the hands, sounding with the strength and passion of the human voice. Such dramatic gestures, such an ability to feel, think, speak with hands could be envied by dramatic actors. ... For three decades, until 1990, Selyutsky reigned on the "playing" ballet field, acting in the pantomime roles of Rothbard, Hans, Abderakhman, Giray, the Great Brahmin. He accepted the "scepter" from the hands of their famous performer, mentor of several generations of dancers in the acting skills of MM Mikhailov, and now he was responsible for the centuries-old traditions of ballet pantomime, the continuity of their life in our time - because the current Great Brahmins studied Selyutsky , Abderakhmany and Girei. By the way, it was the images of the oriental characters, people of another world, another civilization, that were the real “ridge” of the artist. Not the last role in that was played by his mysterious face with an Asian impurity. You look - and Blok comes up immediately: “Yes, we are the Scythians! Yes, we are Asians. ” Large, as if cast - indeed, as if in Block, with peculiar "slanting eyes" - it struck with the similarity with the faces of Buddhist statues and gave the figures of the ballet East extraordinary color and significance. Add here the domineering wide gesture with the picturesque game of brushes, hard, like the will, the tread, the masculine power of the messages. And behind such a spectacular plastic “screen” in Selyutsky they developed - quite in the tradition of the Russian psychological game - the painful spiritual dramas of the heroes doomed to unrequited love.
