Nine Objects of Desire is the fifth studio album by American folk singer Suzanne Vega , released in September 1996 . The producer was Mitchell Froom , who became the singer's husband in 1996-1998. The disc received positive reviews of music criticism in the United States , including from such publications and sites as Rolling Stone [4] , Allmusic [1] , Entertainment Weekly [2] , Pitchfork Media [3] . The single "Caramel" also entered the soundtrack to the film The Truth About Cats and Dogs with Uma Thurman , and as a trailer for the movie Intimacy with Julia Roberts [5] .
