Nikolai Mikhailovich Gundyaev (born November 18, 1940 , Leningrad , RSFSR , USSR ) is a mitrophor archpriest , honorary rector of the St. Petersburg Transfiguration Cathedral , professor , and in 1986-1987 - rector of the Leningrad Theological Academy .

Family
Father - Mikhail Gundyaev, archpriest, mother Raisa Vladimirovna Gundyaeva (nee Kuchina; November 7, 1909 - November 2, 1984) - German language teacher at school, in recent years, housewife, grandfather - Vasily Stepanovich Gundyaev, younger brother - Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill , younger sister - Elena Mikhailovna, vice-rector for culture of the St. Petersburg Theological Academy.
Son - Archpriest Michael Gundyaev.
Early life
During the Great Patriotic War he was in besieged Leningrad .
Church Career
In 1959 - 1963 he studied at the Leningrad Theological Seminary, then continued his education at the Leningrad Theological Academy, which he graduated in 1967 with the degree of candidate of theology, and was left in it as a professor scholarship holder. He became a teacher of pathology, and taught it until September 2004 .
In 1966, he was ordained deacon by the Leningrad Metropolitan Nicodemus (Rotov) , in 1967 - into the priest , and since 1971 - archpriest .
Since 1972 - associate professor , since 1975 - professor .
Since July 19, 1972 - Secretary of the Commission of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church on Christian unity and inter-church relations.
From February 13, 1973 to April 4, 1977 - Deputy Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate .
Since 1977 - consultant of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate.
In 1976-1977 - head of the graduate school of the Moscow Theological Academy.
From May 25, 1977 to March 2, 1986 - rector of the Transfiguration Cathedral in Leningrad.
From March 2, 1986 - Acting Rector of the Leningrad Theological Academy and Seminary, and from March 15, 1986 to June 22, 1987 - Rector of the Academy.
From June 23, 1987 to August 11, 2014, he was re-appointed rector of the Transfiguration Cathedral.
