Kenneth Josiah Omeruo ( born Kenneth Josiah Omeruo ; born October 17, 1993 , in Kaduna , Nigeria ) is a Nigerian soccer player, defender of the English club Chelsea and the national team of Nigeria . 2013 African Nations Cup Winner.

Content

Club career

Kenneth Omerio began his career at the age of 13 in the youth teams of the Standard Liege Club. In 2012, he moved to Chelsea and was immediately leased until the end of the 2012/13 season at ADO Den Haag [5] [6] [7] . On April 19, 2012, in the game against Groningen in the second half of the first half, he scored his first goal for ADO Den Haag [8] .

January 7, 2014 on loan until the end of the season he moved to Middlesbrough [9] . On February 1, he made his debut as a part of the rivermen in the game against Doncaster Rovers (0-0) [10] .

On July 21, 2015, Omerio moved to the Kasympasha club, playing in the Turkish championship , on loan for a period of one season [11] . He made his debut in the Super League on August 16, leaving the main squad for the 1st round match against Gaziantepspor (3-0) [12] .

International Career

Omerio is a player in the Nigeria national team , before that he represented his country in the national teams under 17 and 21 years old. In the national team under 17 years old, Kenneth was called to the 2009 World Championship among junior teams . He immediately became a major player, debuting on October 24, 2009 in a match against the German national team . This match ended with the score 3: 3, and Omerio himself scored his only goal [13] . Kenneth played all seven games in the tournament, and his team reached the final, beating the Spanish team with a score of 3: 1 in the semifinals [14] . In the final, the Nigeria national team was defeated by the Swiss national team with a minimum score of 1: 0 [15] .

The next call to the national team for Kenneth happened in 2011, already in the youth for the world championship among youth teams in 2011 [16] . At this youth World Cup, Omerio was the main player and played all five games, as a result of which his team reached the quarter-finals losing to the French team in extra time 2: 3 [17] .

At the beginning of 2013, Omerio was called up to the Nigeria main team among 23 players for the final matches of the African Cup of Nations 2013 [18] . His debut for the national team took place on January 10, 2013 in a friendly match against the national team of Cape Verde , substituting in the 46th minute instead of Efe Ambrose [19] . His debut at the African Cup of Nations took place on January 21, 2013 in the group stage match against the national team of Burkina Faso , which ended in a draw 1: 1 [20] . At the tournament, Omerio played in all matches, including the semifinal match against Mali , in which he won 4: 1 and reached the final [21] . On February 10, 2013, in the final, the Nigeria national team met again with Burkina Faso, but this time they won 1-0 thanks to a goal by Sunday Mba in the 40th minute. Kenneth spent on the field all 90 minutes of the match and became the owner of the African Cup of Nations [22] .

In the summer of 2019, at the African Cup of Nations in Egypt , Omerio was called up to his national team . In the second match against Guinea, he scored a goal in the 73rd minute, and his team won 1-0.
