Biography

Margaret Maria Beatrice, Princess of Bourbon-Parma, was born on October 13, 1972 in Nijmegen (the Netherlands ) [1] in the family of the Duke of Parma Carlos-Hugo (1930–2010) and Irene of the Netherlands (born 1939) [2] who were married in 1964 - 1981

Princess Margaret has two brother-prince: the elder Carlos, the Duke of Parma (born in 1970) and the twin brother Jaime, the earl of Bardi (under Margaret for a minute); and the younger sister Caroline, Princess of Bourbon-Parma (born in 1974).

Her godparents were Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands (maternal aunt) and Prince Sixt Heinrich of Bourbon-Parma (uncle by father). Margarita - the eldest granddaughter of Queen Juliana and Prince Consort Bernard Lippe-Bisterfeld .

In 1981, her parents divorced [3] . Together with her mother, brothers and sister, she moved from Spain to the Netherlands , where she lived with her grandmother and grandfather, Queen Juliana and Prince Bernard in Barna . She later moved to Wijk bi-Duurstede . Margarita studied anthropology at the Free University of Amsterdam and is an interior designer . She studied architectural design in The Hague .

On September 2, 1996, Princess Margherita received from her father the title of Countess di Colorno ( Colorno - a city in Italy) [4] [5] . In the same year, Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands included Margarita in the structure of the Dutch nobility with the title “ Princess de Bourbon de Parma ” [6] and the style of “ Her Royal Highness ”.

First marriage and controversy

On June 19, 2001, Princess Margaret married businessman Edwin Karel Willem de Roy Van Zuydevejna (born June 19, 1966), a member of the Dutch patrician [ specify ] Family. The civil marriage ceremony was held in Amsterdam [1] , and the Catholic ceremony was held on September 22, 2001 at the Auch Cathedral in France, under the direction of Ronald Philippe Baire , the former Bishop of Rotterdam [7] .

The couple lived in the castle of Bartas in Saint-Georges (Gers, France). But by 2004, Margarita became more often located in Amsterdam . August 13, 2004 it became known that she filed for divorce. On November 8, 2006, the couple were divorced. There were no children in the marriage.

Because of her quarrel with the Dutch royal family, Princess Margaret was not invited to the wedding of her cousin Willem-Alexander, the Prince of Orange , with Maxima Cherruti and the funeral of her uncle, Prince Claus of the Netherlands . But after her divorce from Roy Van Zeydewein, Margarita’s relationship with the royal family began to improve.

Second marriage and children

On May 3, 2008, Princess Margaret remarried to the lawyer Tjalling Sibe ten Cate (born December 23, 1975, Dordrecht ), who was a member of the Dutch patrician clan [9] . The couple had two children:

  • Julia Carolina Katharina ten Cate (born September 3, 2008 , Amsterdam ) [10] .

Princess Margaret of Bourbon-Parma, is the godmother of three of her nieces: Princess Cecilia of Bourbon-Parma (daughter of her brother Carl, Duke of Parma), Princess Clara Zita of Bourbon-Parma (daughter of her twin brother Jaime, Count Bardi) and Alai-Marie B. , the daughter of her sister, Princess Caroline, the Marquise of Sala.
