Geographical location and climate
The city is located in the southeastern part of the province, on the left bank of the Mlazi River, approximately 25 kilometers southeast of the administrative center of the province of Pietermaritzburg . The absolute height is 493 meters above sea level [1] .
The average annual rainfall is 610 mm. Most precipitation falls between October and March . The average maximum air temperature varies from 20.6 ° C (in June) to 26.5 ° C (in February). The coldest month of the year is July . The average minimum night temperature for this month is 7.1 ° C [2] .
Population
According to the 2001 official census , the population was 99,720 people, of which 46.67% were men, 53.33% respectively women.
