In 2011, he was among the 50 best economists in the world according to IDEAS / RePEc [2] .

Biography

He grew up in Livingston, New Jersey, in a Jewish family [3] . In 1979, he graduated from Livingston High School .

In 1983, he received a bachelor of science degree (with honors) from the Cornell University School of Industrial and Labor Relations. In 1985, he received a master’s degree from Harvard University , and in 1987 there he received a doctorate in economics.

Professor at Princeton University . Founder and director of the research center "Survey" at the university [4] .

In 1994 - 1995, he served as chief economist at the US Department of Labor .

In 2009 - 2010 - Assistant for Economic Policy, US Treasury Secretary .

In 2011, he was appointed head of the Council of Economic Advisers of the White House. When he was appointed to this position, US President Barack Obama described him as “one of the nation’s leading economists” [5] . While in this position, he made the statement that inequality in the United States reached a point when the income gap of citizens threatens economic growth [6] .

Alan Krueger wrote a book on terrorism , which refutes the generally accepted view that terrorism originates among poor uneducated people. Kruger writes that often terrorists emerge from the middle class and have college level education [2] .

From 2000 to 2006, he led the Economic Scene column in the New York Times [4] .
