The Archdiocese of Monrovia ( Latin: Archidioecesis Monroviensis ) is the archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church with its center in the city of Monrovia , Liberia . The Metropolitanate of Monrovia includes the dioceses of Gbarnga and Cape Palmas . The Cathedral of the Archdiocese of Monrovia is the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

History
On April 18, 1903, the Apostolic Prefecture of Liberia was established by separating it from the Apostolic Vicariate of Sierra Leone (today - the Archdiocese of Freetown ).
On April 9, 1934, Pope Pius XI issued the bull Quae magis christiano , which elevated the apostolic prefecture of Liberia to the rank of apostolic vicariate.
On February 2, 1950, the Apostolic Vicariate of Liberia transferred part of its territory in favor of the construction of the new Apostolic Prefecture of Cape Palmas (today the Diocese of Cape Palmas ) and at the same time changed its name to the Apostolic Vicariate of Monrovia.
On December 19, 1981, Pope John Paul II issued the bull Patet Ecclesiae , which raised the Apostolic Vicariate of Monrovia to the rank of archdiocese.
On November 17, 1986, the Archdiocese of Monrovia transferred part of its territory in favor of the construction of a new diocese of Gbarnga .
