Biography
Andrei Deshin was born on April 26, 1924 in a village of Kotovo (now Dolgorukovsky district of the Lipetsk region ) into a peasant family. He received his primary education, after which he worked on a collective farm . In April 1942, Deshin was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since October of that year - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. He took part in the battles on the Bryansk and Central Fronts. By September 1943, Corporal Andrei Deshin was the senior telephone operator of the 6th Artillery Regiment of the 74th Rifle Division of the 13th Army of the Central Front. He distinguished himself during the crossing of the Desna [1] .
In September 1943, Deshin received orders to lay a telephone cable across the river. Finding no watercraft, he tied a cable around his body and swam to the west bank, completing the task. September 21, in the village of Kolychivka, Chernihiv region, Chernihiv region, Ukrainian SSR, Deshin laid a cable from a boat. During the bombardment of the enemy aircraft Deshin died. He was buried in a mass grave in a cemetery in the village of Kolychovka [1] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the USSR of October 16, 1943, for the courage and heroism shown in crossing the Desna and keeping the bridgehead on its right bank, Corporal Andrei Deshin was posthumously awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union . He was also awarded the Order of Lenin and a medal [1] .
Streets in Chernigov , Kolychivka and Dolgorukovo are named in honor of Deshin [1] .
