Type Description
Nara is a low leafless plant up to 1.5 m high, a typical xerophyte . The root is ligneous, up to 10-12 m long , it stores water well. The fruit is pumpkin with sweet and sour pulp, the diameter can reach 25 cm . Sepals are hard, flowers are small, with pale yellow leathery petals . [5] The stalk is covered with small hairs and sharp spines protruding in all directions. [6]
Juicy fruits are eaten by local jackals and hyenas to quench their thirst . The seeds are practically not digested in the stomachs of animals , which contributes to the spread of acantosicios along with feces . The plant also serves as a food source for the local night grasshopper Acanthoproctus diadematus . [7]
