Biography

Dmitry Dergachev was born on May 19, 1923 in the village of Bogorodskoye (now the Trinity Administrative District of Moscow ) into a peasant family. He graduated from seven classes of the school, then courses of machine operators. He worked on a collective farm , engaged in the repair of agricultural machinery. In January 1942, Dergachev was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. He took part in the battles on the Kalinin , 1st Ukrainian and 1st Belorussian fronts. Participated in battles in the Kalinin region , the liberation of the Ukrainian SSR . By January 1945, Corporal Dmitry Dergachev commanded the gun of the 1054th artillery regiment of the 416th rifle division of the 5th shock army of the 1st Belorussian front. Distinguished during the liberation of Poland [1] .

On January 14, 1945, during the breakthrough of enemy defenses during the Soviet offensive from the Magnushevsky bridgehead, Dergachev suppressed enemy firing points, helping to advance the rifle units forward. By the middle of the same day the town of Buda Augustovské was liberated, after which the infantrymen and artillerymen began to move in the direction of the nearby railway, intending to cut it. In the battle, Dergachev, who was in the front lines, was wounded in the arm, but he did not leave the battlefield. When German self-propelled guns appeared due to the move, Dergachev shot down two of them, but he himself was mortally wounded by a shell fragment. With military honors, he was buried in Budy Augustovsk [1] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 24, 1945, Corporal Dmitry Dergachev was posthumously awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union for "exemplary performance of command missions of the command on the front of the battle against the German invaders and shown courage and heroism". He was also awarded the Order of Lenin and a medal [1] .

In honor of Dergachev named the school in which he studied [1] .
