Genzo Yanagita ( Jan. ита 田 元 三 Yanagita Genzo: January 3, 1893 - October 7, 1952 ) - Lieutenant-General of the Japanese Imperial Army .

Genzo Yanagita was born in 1893 in the village of Kataoka, Higasitikum county, Nagano Prefecture (now the city of Shiojiri ). In 1914 he graduated from Rikugun Sikan Gakko . In 1922 he graduated with honors from Rikugun daigakko . In December 1932 he was appointed military attache in Poland and Romania .

After returning to Japan in March 1934, Genzo Yanagita was sent to the headquarters of the Kwantung Army . In 1936 he was promoted to colonel and appointed to the imperial guard .

In August 1937, Genzo Yanagita was transferred to the position of head of the mobilization department. In July 1938 he was appointed commander of the 1st regiment of the Japanese army. In 1938, Genzo Yanagita was promoted to Major General and was appointed Deputy Chief of the 11th Army . In 1940, he headed the Japanese military mission in Harbin and became an assistant to the chief of military intelligence of the Kwantung Army. In December 1942 he was promoted to lieutenant general. In 1943 he was appointed commander of the 33 divisions stationed in Burma . At the beginning of 1944, his division suffered great losses, in connection with which he was planned to be turned over to the tribunal, but as a result, his resignation was sent in March. At the end of 1944 he was recalled and appointed commander of Port Arthur . In 1945 he headed the defense of the Kwantung region .

He was captured during the Manchurian operation of the Soviet troops .

In 1952, he died while in a prisoner of war camp in the USSR.
