He graduated from the Moscow State Institute of Foreign Affairs of the USSR (1973). He spoke English and French.
In diplomatic service since 1973.
- 1973-1991 in the central office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the USSR.
- 1991 - 1994 - Counselor of the Embassy of the USSR, Russia in Belgium .
- 1994-1996 - Deputy Director of the First European Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.
- 1996 - 1997 - Director of the Department of European Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.
- January 6, 1998 - June 4, 2001 - Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to ( OSCE ) in Vienna [1] [2] .
- 2001 - 2013 - Director of the First European Department, member of the board of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.
From January 25, 2013 - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation in Portugal [3] .
Suddenly died on May 8, 2018 . He was buried in Moscow at the Troyekurovsky cemetery (station 18).
