Church of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin ( Polish Cerkiew Opieki Matki Bożej ) is an Orthodox church located in the village of Zdynia , Gorlice County , Lesser Poland Voivodeship . The parish is included in the Przemysl and Novosondentsky diocese of the Polish Orthodox Church . The temple is located on the tourist path "The path of wooden architecture . " Architectural monument of Lesser Poland Voivodeship.
History
The first mention of the temple dates back to 1795. The temple was originally Greek Catholic .
After 1946, when the inhabitants of the village, who were Lemkus , were resettled in the western territories of Poland during Operation Vistula , the church was transferred to state ownership. Since 1956, the temple was used simultaneously by the Roman Catholic and Orthodox communities of the village of Zdynia.
June 10, 1989 the Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary was included in the list of architectural monuments of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship (No. A-597).
December 17, 2009 the temple was transferred to the ownership of the Polish Orthodox Church.
Description
The wooden church was built in the three-domed style typical of West Lemk architecture. Above the entrance is a wooden rectangular tower, which is crowned with a Latin cross . Inside the temple, an iconostasis with baroque elements dating from the 18th century has been preserved. The iconostasis was renovated in 2007. The inner walls of the temple are covered with polychrome .
The courtyard of the temple is surrounded by a stone wall with an entrance, above which is a wooden belfry.
