Cyril (hurricane)

Cyril owes his name to the Berlin family, who wanted to give his father ( Bulgarian Cyril Genov) an anticyclone . However, in odd years, only female names receive anticyclones, so Cyril was called the cyclone .

The low-pressure area, formed on January 15 over about. Newfoundland , moved east. The center of the hurricane passed in the evening hours and at night of January 17 over Northern Ireland , Scotland and Sweden . The damage caused by it and the subsequent snowfall seriously complicated the traffic in the morning rush hours in the UK. The railway connection between Cardiff and London was interrupted. Having reached a strength of 10-12 points on the Beaufort scale , on January 18 he went over most of Europe.
