The village is located directly on the federal highway P104 in the section Rybinsk - Poshekhonye . The village is located at a distance of 30 km from Rybinsk. The nearest village in the direction of Rybinsk is Lavrentievo (2 km), in the direction of Poshekhonya - Milyushino (2 km between the centers and 250 m between the outskirts). To the east of the village begins the Tatyanka stream, which crosses the P-104 road in the center of the village and then flows west, after which it flows into the Rybinsk reservoir ^[2] .

The village of Ostashev is indicated on the plan of the General Land Survey of the Rybinsk district in 1792.

As of January 1, 2007, there were 30 permanent residents in the village ^[3] . The village is served by a post office in Milyushino , located on the road towards Poshekhonya, to the north. The village has a main street oriented along the road, the length of which is more than 1 km. According to postal data, there are 48 houses in the village ^[4] .
