Biography
In 1944 he graduated from the Moscow Choreographic School (teacher N.I. Tarasov ).
In 1944-1949 he worked as a choreographer of the Opera Studio at the Moscow Conservatory .
In 1951 he graduated from the choreography department of GITIS (course R.V. Zakharova ).
In 1953-1954 he worked as a choreographer and teacher in Romania, in 1963-1964 - in Japan, in Mongolia and Argentina.
In 1958-1960, 1962, 1964-1967 he was the main choreographer of the Musical Theater of the Karelian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (Petrozavodsk).
In 1960-1961 - the main choreographer of the Theater. Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko .
In 1967-1989 - Professor, Head of the Choreography Department of the Moscow Institute of Culture .
Creativity
The work of I.V. Smirnov is characterized by a desire for a plot-developed drama of ballet performances, a combination of classical dance choreography with national folklore.
