Content
For the first time, Donna Summer could be heard on the singles "Wassermann" and "Aquarius" from the German version of the musical " Hair ", they were released in Europe in 1968. For some time, the artist still performed under her real name - Donna Gaines. The first studio album Lady of the Night was released in 1974 and brought some fame in Europe. However, already in the next 1975, the singer was waiting for a real breakthrough in the world music arena: the legendary single “ Love to Love You Baby ” was released. The song, like the album of the same name, is quickly captured by the dance floors. Donna signs a contract with Casablanca Records , which will be responsible for releasing her music throughout the 70s. From that moment, Summer became an iconic figure of the era, and each new album only confirmed the status of “Disco Queen”. Over the years, such super hits have been recorded as “ I Feel Love ”, “ Last Dance ”, “ MacArthur Park ” and “ Heaven Knows ”. In 1979, her most successful album of her career was released - the multi-platinum Bad Girls .
In 1980, Donna Summer decided to release music of other genres, as disco became a kind of outcast in the US music market. Due to disagreements with Casablanca Records, the artist signs a contract with the new label Geffen Records . In the first two years, Summer released two albums The Wanderer and Donna Summer , the singles of which were successful and hit the top 10 Billboard charts . The next album She Works Hard for the Money was released in 1983 and became Donna's most popular release in the 80s, and the song of the same name became a super hit. The constant litigation of the "big bosses" and the transition from label to label still affected the success of the albums: the following records released this decade did not have high positions on the charts or frantic sales. All Systems Go (1987) was the last album released on Geffen Records. She released her 14th studio album Another Place and Time in 1989 on the Atlantic label, and despite the modest sales of the album, the lead single “ This Time I Know It's for Real ” was able to show itself perfectly, getting into the top 10 charts of a dozen countries .
In the 1990s, the singer released three albums: the studio experimental urban album Mistaken Identity (1991), the Christmas Christmas Spirit (1994) and the second live album, Live & More Encore (1999). In addition, in 1996 the world saw the unreleased album I'm a Rainbow , the release of which was supposed to take place in 1982. Diva's latest album, Crayons , was released in 2008.
Over the course of his career, more than eight dozen collections of Donna Summer's best hits have been published; the 1979 collection, On the Radio: Greatest Hits Volumes I & II , is considered the most successful.
