Surgical saw

Surgical files are surgical instruments used for sawing bones during amputation in bone grafting ( osteosynthesis ). The action of the cut is based on the reciprocating movements of the saw with the edge of the set of pointed wedges. The sharply pointed wedges are bent in pairs in opposite directions for a short distance (saw wiring) [1] . In surgery, sheet, arc and wire saws are used [2] .

Description

The working part of the saw is sheet (flat) or wire (a blade in the form of three to four turns of steel wire). The handle, to hold the canvas, is in the form of a frame, a T-shaped design. In order to give rigidity to the working part, a U-shaped guide is placed on its edge [1] .

Types of Saws

The following types of surgical saws are distinguished [1] [3] :

  • Langenbek's saw - has a relatively narrow blade;
  • Wise's saw - has a relatively wide blade;
  • Gigli's saw - has a wire blade with teeth of small height;
  • Olivecron saw - has a wire blade with pronounced teeth;
  • Voyachek nose saw - has a handle, a connecting neck and a blade; used in otorhinolaryngological surgery for sawing thin bones of the nose .
