Matthew Thomas Skiba (born February 24, 1976, Chicago , Illinois ) is an American singer, songwriter and guitarist known as the vocalist and guitarist of the punk rock band Alkaline Trio . He is currently the vocalist and guitarist of the punk rock band Blink-182 .

Youth and Family
Matt Skiba was born in Chicago and moved to the suburbs of McHenry at the age of 3 with his family. At an early age, he began to master the piano and drum kit . In 1996, working as a courier, he decided to switch from drums to guitar. Prior to that, he was a drummer for the Blunt , Jerkwater and the Traitors .
His mother, Joan Skiba, is a primary school teacher in Crystal Lake, Illinois. Father, Thomas Skiba, dentist. He also has two twin twin sisters.
Alkaline Trio
Skiba studied design at Columbia College in Chicago , but left him in 1996 to form the Alkaline Trio with drummer Glenn Porter and bassist Rob Doran.
After the band recorded their demo and single “ Sundials ”, they also recorded For Your Lungs Only EP , during which Doran left the band. Dan Andriano replaced him and played bass in EP. The band released their debut full-length album, Goddamnit, in 1998, followed by Maybe I'll Catch Fire and Alkaline Trio in 2000.
The composition of the group changed again in 2000. Porter left, he was replaced by drummer Mike Felamli. From Here to Infirmary was released in spring 2001. In 2002, Jade Tree Records released Hot Water Music / Alkaline Trio split EP , which was well received. Both groups made original tracks and covers of each other's songs. Album Good Mourning was released in 2003. During the recording of Good Mourning , Skiba had a problem with acid reflux due to his diet and earlier problems with alcohol and drugs.
The band released Crimson in 2005 and Remains in 2007. Agony & Irony was released in July 2008. In January 2010, they released This Addiction . In July 2011, they released an album called Damnesia in honor of the band's 15th anniversary. Their ninth album, My Shame Is True, was released on April 2, 2013.
Solo and other projects
In 2001, he began his first solo tour, The Plea For Peace Tour , consisting mainly of acoustic versions of Alkaline Trio songs with back drums and bass in several shows.
His first solo release was in 2002 with Kevin Seconds. The songs were mostly acoustic with Skiba playing drums, bass and piano. Alkaline Trio still occasionally performs the song “Good Fucking Bye”.
In 2006, Skiba created Heavens with bassist Josiane Steinbrick. The group issued Patent Pending on September 12, 2006.
In May 2007, Skiba played five shows with Chuck Ragan from Hot Water Music.
In late December 2008, Steinbrick announced on the MySpace page the collapse of Heavens .
On August 10, 2010, he released a solo album called Demos. The album is considered the forerunner of the future Alkaline Trio album.
In January 2012, Skiba released an EP along with former member of Angels and Airwaves and The Offspring drummer Atom Willard called The Hell . The debut The Hell EP is called "Sauve Les Requins".
Skiba's second solo album, Babylon, was released on May 8, 2012. The album contains songs by a group called Matt Skiba And The Sekrets , the support group includes AFI bassist Hunter Burgan and drummer My Chemical Romance Jarrod Alexander.
In the summer of 2015, he became a member of Blink-182 . In the winter of 2015, Matt became a session member of the group after the departure of vocalist and guitarist Tom DeLong from Blink. Later it became known that the group was recording new material with Matt, and that he replaced DeLong in blink-182.
In 2016, he participated in the recording of Andy Black 's album " The Shadow Side ", performing the vocal part in the song " Stay Alive ".
Personal life
Skiba is a vegetarian practicing Transcendental Meditation. He believes that a clean and calm state of mind greatly helps his creative process, although he initially believed that the "tormented soul" is more profitable. David Lynch’s book Catching the Big Fish made him change his mind; now he believes that a calm state is more useful for creativity.
Skiba moved to San Francisco in 2001, although he currently lives in Los Angeles . He has a Love Song tattoo on his knuckles. Skiba is a fan of The Cure , Damned , Nirvana, and Green Day . Divorced.
