Biography
Born in 1920 in the village of Ullugatag of the Kyurinsky district (now Suleiman-Stalsky district). His father, Abil Gyukyulovich Abilov, was forced to work in the Baku oil fields because of the difficult economic situation in order to support his family. In 1929, at the request of his father, Abutalib went to school. In 1936 he graduated from the Ullugatag seven-year plan, and in the same year he entered the Derbent Agricultural College. For excellent academic success, he was enrolled in the Moscow Agricultural Academy named after the decision of the Council of Educators . Timiryazev . However, because of the beginning of World War II, he could not finish his studies, so Abutalib returned to Dagestan and entered the Suleiman Stalsky Pedagogical Institute . In 1943 he graduated in absentia.
Career
In May 1943 he headed the propaganda and agitation department of the Kasumkent district committee of the CPSU (b) . In September 1944 he was appointed secretary of the Komsomol regional committee for propaganda and agitation. In June 1945, Abilov was sent to study at the Higher Party School under the Central Committee of the All-Union Communist Party of Bolsheviks , where he studied for almost three years. In 1948 he was elected the first secretary of the Dagestan regional committee of the Komsomol. In October 1949, Abilov became the head of the planning and financial department, in 1950 - the head of the agricultural department. In 1952, he studied at the Academy of Social Sciences , which Abilov graduated with honors, defending a thesis on the problems of cultural development of the peoples of Dagestan. Abilov was appointed head of the history sector of the Dagestan branch of the Institute of Marxism-Leninism under the Central Committee of the CPSU , and then its director. In 1954, Abilov was appointed director of the Dagestan Pedagogical Institute, which in 1957 was transformed into Dagestan State University . V.I. Lenin. In 1960 he became a doctor of historical sciences. He was one of the pioneers in the study of the history of Dagestan culture. For 35 years, he was elected as a deputy of the Supreme Council of the DASSR, was the chairman of the standing commission on public education and culture, and the chairman of the Supreme Council. Abilov worked at DSU for 30 years, before retiring in 1987. All his life he lived in a modest one-story university house.
Contribution to the development of science and culture of Dagestan
Abutalib Abilov was one of the organizers of the transformation of the pedagogical institute into a university. With the opening of the university, the status of the city and the republic became noticeably higher. The emergence of the DSU stimulated the development of education and science, the general cultural level of the population of the republic significantly increased. At the time of the formation of the DSU, he was only 37 years old. Abilov paid special attention to the education of scientific and pedagogical personnel and the creation of the material and technical base of a young university. In 1957, 146 teachers worked in it, of which 36 were candidates of science and only one doctor , professor. By 1967, the number of teachers has more than tripled, including 11 doctors and 125 candidates of sciences. And in 1987, the university had 46 professors and more than 300 candidates of science. Under the leadership of Abilov himself, 30 people successfully defended their dissertations.
At the personal invitation of Abilov, leading specialists from major universities of the country gave lectures at the young university. His initiative was to establish scientific ties with famous scientists. The best graduates of the university were sent to graduate schools of central universities, young talented teachers were given creative leave to complete their studies. The organizational talent of Abutalib Abilovich was fully manifested in creating the conditions for scientific growth, as well as in the ability to give a constant impetus to development.
Under Abilov, the DSU combined the scientific potential of the whole republic and region. The rector made great efforts to ensure that the university as a whole grew and developed, and Makhachkala from a small provincial city turned into a university city. The educational buildings erected by him, a sports complex, a planetarium and residential buildings for teachers gave the city look a metropolitan look. Before his retirement, his long-term dream came true: the construction of a scientific library, one of the largest in the North Caucasus, was completed.
He led an active public work. He was vice-president of the friendship societies "USSR - Ceylon" and "USSR - India", visited these countries several times, received delegations from there in his hospitable home, and did a great job of internationally educating Dagestan youth.
