The Kigali Archdiocese ( lat. Archidioecesis Kigaliensis ) is the archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church with its center in Kigali , Rwanda . The dioceses of Byumba , Butare , Gikongoro , Kabgayi , Kibungo , Newndo , Ruhengeri , Chyangugu are included in the metropolis of Kigali. The cathedral of the Kigali Archdiocese is the Church of St. Michael the Archangel.

History
On April 10, 1976, Pope Paul VI issued the bull “Cum Venerabiles,” which established the Kigali Archdiocese, isolating it from the Kabgaya Archdiocese, whose status was simultaneously lowered to the diocese.
During the Civil War , the first Archbishop of Kigali, Vincent Nsengyumva, was killed.
