History

The company was founded by Roland Berger in 1967 after working for four years at Gennaro Boston Associati in Boston and Milan. By 1987, the company with sales of over 100 million German marks [6] became the largest consulting firm in Germany.

To finance the development of business abroad, Roland Berger allowed Deutsche Bank to acquire a minority stake, which in 1988 increased to 75.1%. This fact became a problem for a company in the USA, where the Federal Reserve Bank forbids subsidiaries of commercial banks to provide consulting services, so Roland Berger managers bought back Deutsche Bank shares in 1998 and 2000 [6] .

In November 2010, the company negotiated a merger with the consulting division of Deloitte , but abandoned these plans, as Roland Berger Partners decided to invest more of their own resources in the development of the company [7] . In 2013, at the request of the Partners, the Executive Committee of the company considered “external development options” and the possible sale of the company - according to reports, the proposal came from Ernst & Young , but was ultimately rejected by management [8] [9] . In June 2015, the entire team of the German consulting firm FMC Consultants GmbH [10] moved to work at Roland Berger.

In September 2015, the company announced a rebranding, introducing a logo that the company’s specialists describe as “a titanium color letter B” combined with the words “Roland Berger” and removing the words “Strategy Consultants” from the company’s official name [11] [12] .
