Career
On May 16, 1980, at competitions in Leselidze, Yuri Sedykh set a world record, throwing a hammer at 80.38 meters. Yuri Tamm in his attempt to update this record - 80.46 meters. However, even later, Sedykh regained the title of world record holder, setting the result to 80.64 meters.
At the Olympic Games in Moscow, Jüri won a bronze medal. Soviet athletes also won gold and silver - Yuri Sedykh with a world record and Sergey Litvinov .
In 1981 and 1983, Tamm won silver and gold medals at the Universiades . In 1987, at the World Championships, Jüri became the silver medalist, losing to Sergei Litvinov. At the Olympics in Seoul, the whole pedestal in the hammer throw was again taken by athletes from the USSR. Yuri Tamm won bronze, Yuri Sedykh silver, and Sergey Litvinov gold.
After the collapse of the USSR, Jüri began to speak for Estonia. He twice participated in the Olympic Games - in 1992 and 1996 , as well as in the European and World Championships .
Personal Life
Yuri Tamm lived and trained in the Ukrainian SSR . There he graduated from the Kiev State Institute of Physical Culture and married a Ukrainian.
In 1998 he began a political career. From 1999 to 2011, he was a member of the Riigikogu from the Social Democratic Party . From 2004 to 2008, Jüri was Vice President of the Estonian Olympic Committee . From 2012 to 2015, Jüri Tamm led the administration of the President of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine, Sergey Bubka [1] . Since 2016, he has been re-elected Vice-President of the Estonian NOC. Jüri Tamm, Chairman of the EU Commissions in the Association of European Olympic Committees.
