Vakhsh ( Taj. Vakhsh ) is an urban-type settlement in the Khatlon region of Tajikistan , the center of the Vakhsh region . The village is located 26 km from the Bohtar railway station (formerly Kurgan-Tyube) [2] , a junction of lines to Kulyab , Termez and Yavan .

The status of an urban-type settlement with the name Vakhshstroy was assigned in 1937. By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the Tajik SSR of January 7, 1966, Vakhshstroy was renamed Vakhsh. According to the same Decree, it became the center of the Kurgan-Tyubinsky district.
In Soviet times, the administration of the Vakhsh irrigation system was established in the village.
