Biography

The centurion of Lutensky (1671), the Gadyatsky regimental convoy (1672-1687), the colonel of the Gadyatsky (1687-1704), the ambassador to Moscow (1696).

A participant in the campaign of Peter I near Azov in 1696, then a joint Russian-Ukrainian campaign (in the summer of 1697) against the Tatar-Turkish forces, who tried to capture the entire lower reaches of the Dnieper to Kodak . M. Borokhovich with his gadyatsky regiment then covered the Kodak fortress , harbor and transport, which was in danger from one of the flying Tatar detachments.

As the historian D. Yavornitsky wrote:

“For the sake of caution and for the fear of an enemy attack, the hetman Mazepa left at the Kodak the vile Colonel Mikhail Borokhovich with the villagers that did not fit on water vessels.”

During the Russian-Swedish war, by order of Peter I, the hetman Mazepa formed a corps of Cossacks, which included the Gadyachsky regiment of the Ukrainian city Cossacks and the Cossack regiment, led by Colonel Gadyatsky Mikhail Borokhovich. At the same time, Mazepa endowed him with the powers of a punitive (marching) hetman. Since the corps was small in number and did not represent a separate striking force, it acted under the general command of Prince Repnin and was subordinate to the Russian troops, and then joined forces with Field Marshal Boris Sheremetev . The corps took part in hostilities near Riga , Druya and other cities, without participating in general battles. His main task was to protect the Russian borders from a possible invasion of the Swedes. After some time, significant misunderstandings arose between the Russians and the Cossacks. Zaporizhzhya Cossacks refused to obey the orders of Russian generals, could not accept the dismissive attitude of Russian officers. Chronists note several cases of armed clashes between the Cossacks and the Russians. In addition, the Cossacks did not endure hunger, wait until they were paid the delayed payment, and began to look for a living by themselves, attacking the Russian settlements. All this ended with the fact that the command was forced to let the Cossacks go home. The corps of Borokhovich fell apart, and its remnants were soon annexed to the corps of the hetman D. Apostle and passed under his command. According to some reports, Mikhail Borokhovich later took part in the Polish campaign of 1704, during which he died.

He was known for his concern for Orthodox churches - he donated 100 gold to the Mgar (Lubensky) Transfiguration Monastery . In 1686, his dependency in with. Lyutenka was built three-altered stone Holy Assumption Church , where he was buried.
