Biography

He spent his childhood in the Lithuanian city of Dukshtas with his grandmother Ulyana Titovna, who came from the old Tolkachev family of Old Believers in the city of Moletai . Grandfather - Fyodor Ignatievich Kirilov, died during the war. Later Valery moved to Leningrad to his parents. Mother - Nina Fyodorovna Kirillova, manager, father - George (Yuri) Alekseevich Karaskov , scientist of TsNIIMF , sailor of a scientific vessel.

He studied at Leningrad school number 169, where Vadim Kurylyov ( DDT ) also studied two classes younger. He served in the army in the border troops . He studied at the St. Petersburg College of Music. M.P. Mussorgsky , where Eugene Huberman studied later, who later became his teacher. Huberman played both in the Aquarium and in the Zoo , after his departure, Eugene was replaced by his students. Pyotr Troshchenkov - in the "Aquarium", Valery Kirilov - in the "Zoo".

By my own admission: “Being a professional musician by education, I was torn between the Rock Club and officialdom at that time. Playing in club teams, I got tired of lack of money, but, playing in officialdom, I cried from insanity ” [2] .

In the first half of the 1980s, he worked at the Lenconcert TO as part of the Kalinka VIA and with the honored artist of the RSFSR Vladimir Gorodnichy as part of the orchestra conducted by Yaroslav Tliss.

In the spring of 1982, he played in the Strange Games group, in which he joined the Leningrad Rock Club , and later was replaced by a fellow student at the Musorgsky school - Alexander Kondrashkin [3] .

In 1982, as a guest musician, he recorded several songs with Viktor Tsoi and Alexei Rybin . The recorded material was taken by Viktor Tsoi and subsequently lost it, but Kirilov made a copy and, together with Maryana Tsoi, restored the recording at Edita Pieha’s studio in 1991. The bass guitar was supplemented by the guitarist of the Zoo Alexander Khrabunov . The album was called " Unknown Songs of Viktor Tsoi " [4] .

He played in the groups “Postscriptum” (1980), “Magic Journey” (1981), “Ashes” (1982), “KSK” with Evgeny Fedorov and Andrei Mikhailov (1983-1984), “The Jungle ” [5] (1984), “Skineaters” (Denmark, 1990). He was recording the album “Shut Up and Dance” with Alexander Demin in 1990 [6] .

In 1985 he became a member of the Zoo group and played in it until the death of its leader Mike Naumenko . Formally, the Zoo group did not break up. Alexander Khrabunov and Valery Kirilov remained from the old composition.

In 1991, he produced LP albums “Viktor Tsoi's Unknown Songs” , “Music for the Film” and “County Town N” .

In 2017, the young director Vlad Kovalev shot the film “Rock and Roll” about Valery Kirilov, which was noted at the festivals “Student TEFI”, “ Saint Anna ”, “PeterKiT”, “Intonation” and others.

He was married to singer and actress Olga Domushchu ( Jonathan Livingston , Buff Theater ) who died in 2007. Daughter - Angelica Puja, grandson - Leo and granddaughter - Lyme. The daughter and her children are citizens of Finland.
