Vasily Grigorievich Bazanov ( October 14 (27), 1911 , Vozherovo, Kologrivsky Uyezd , Kostroma Province - February 16, 1981 , Komarovo , Leningrad Region ) - Soviet literary critic and folklorist , specialist in the field of Russian literature of the 19th century, the history of literary organizations and movements.

He dealt with the problems of the work of Decembrist writers and revolutionary populists , and studied the “ new peasant ” poetry of the Silver Age . Corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences since June 29, 1962 in the Department of Literature and Language (literary criticism).

Biography

He graduated from the Galich school II level with a pedagogical bias (1927). As a schoolboy, he collaborated with the regional newspaper Plow and the Hammer. In 1928 he entered the Yaroslavl Pedagogical Institute , then transferred to the department of social and literary sciences of the pedagogical faculty of the University of Nizhny Novgorod (1931). He studied at the graduate school on the history of Russian literature at the Leningrad State Institute of Speech Culture, then received a direction in Petrozavodsk , where he worked as head of the department of KSPI (1934-1940). Since 1934 - a senior researcher, since 1944 - the head of the department of folklore of the Karelian Research Institute. Founder and first dean (1940-1948) of the Faculty of History and Philology of KFGU . During World War II, he was evacuated to Syktyvkar . Since 1946 - member of the CPSU (b) . Doctor of Philology (1948), professor. In 1948 - 1952 he headed the department of literature at the Institute of Language, Literature and History of the Karelian-Finnish Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences . Since the 1950s, he worked in Leningrad , headed the department of journalism at Leningrad State University . Editor-in-chief of the journal Russian Literature (1958-1968). In 1965-1975 , he was director of the IRLI of the USSR Academy of Sciences .

He was a member of the editorial board of the Karelia almanac and the board of the Writers Union of the Karelian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. Member of the editorial boards of the academic series The Library of Russian Folklore of Karelia (1947-1948) and Monuments of Russian Folklore (1960-1981), member of the editorial boards of the Russian Folklore series (1956-1972), Russian Literature and Folklore (1970— 1981), " Literary heritage " (1971-1981). Prepared editions by F. N. Glinka (1957, “Selected Works”) and “Poetry of Peasant Holidays” (1970) in the large series “ The Poet 's Libraries ”; F. N. Glinka (1951, "Poems"), V. F. Raevsky (1952) and A. I. Odoevsky (1954) in the small series "The Poet's Library" . He also prepared editions of the works of V. A. Zhukovsky (“Poems”; 1956, jointly with A. G. Dementiev ), K. F. Ryleyev (“Poems. Articles. Essays. Memos. Letters. Letters”, 1956), N. A. Klyuyev (The Favorites, 1981) and others. He supervised the preparation of the publication of the Complete Works by F. M. Dostoevsky .

Son Nikolai (1934-2003) - demographer, candidate of medical sciences, grandchildren Andrei (born 1960), economist, candidate of economic sciences, and P.N. Bazanov (born 1969), historian.
