Biography
Vasily Degtyarev was born January 1 (14), 1915 in the village of Belogorodka (now the Kiev-Svyatoshinsky district of the Kiev region of Ukraine ) in the family of an employee.
In 1936 he graduated from the rabfak in Pyatigorsk , after which he worked as a mechanic at the motor depot. In the same year, Degtyarev was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. In 1939 he graduated from the 1st Chkalov Military Aviation School. Since June 1942 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. By July 1942, Lieutenant Vasily Degtyarev commanded the link of the 571st assault air regiment of the 224th assault air division of the 1st Air Army of the Western Front [1] .
During his participation in the hostilities, Degtyarev made 9 sorties, destroyed 2 aircraft, suppressed fire of 8 firing points, and inflicted serious damage on enemy troops in military equipment and manpower. On July 9, 1942, during the next sortie, the Il-2 plane, which was piloted by Degtyarev, was shot down in the area of the village of Olsufevo, Zhukovsky District, Bryansk Region . Degtyarev made an emergency landing near the village of Golubei . With fire from his pistol, he fought off the enemy soldiers surrounding him, and shot himself with the last bullet. He was buried in the village of Golubei [1] .
On April 24, 1943, Degtyarev was introduced to the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, but then the performance was not realized [1] .
By decree of the President of the USSR of November 11, 1990, for “courage and heroism shown in the struggle against the German invaders in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945,” Lieutenant Vasily Degtyarev was posthumously awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union . His relatives were awarded the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 11632 [1] .
He was also awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree.
Memory
