Protein is a special type of inflamos that recognize foreign bacterial or viral DNA . [3]
Content
Functions
The protein is part of the Ifi202 / IFI16 cytokine family containing the HIN-200 domain. AIM2 expression is induced by interferon-gamma. [2]
AIM2 is capable of forming a special type of inflammasome , also called DNA inflammasomes for their ability to recognize foreign DNA due to the HIN200 domain that binds DNA, and the PYD domain that recruits the adapter protein ASC , necessary for the formation of inflammasomes. The complex is oligomerized in the presence of bacterial or viral DNA, as well as its own damaged DNA. The latter results in an autoimmune reaction. ASC contains the CARD domain ( English caspase activation and recruitment domain ), which, in turn, recruits pro- caspase-1, which leads to self-activation of caspase-1. Activated caspase-1 processes intelekin-1 beta and interleukin-18 inflammatory cytokines into active form. [3]
Structure
Protein AIM2 consists of 343 amino acids . Contains the N-terminal pyrin domain DAPIN (section 1-87) and the C-terminal HIN-200 domain (section 138-337), which includes 2 fragments capable of binding oligonucleotides. [four]
Clinical value
An increased level of AIM2 protein is found in the skin of patients with psoriasis . [five]
