Hermogenes López ( Spanish Hermógenes López ; April 19, 1830 - December 17, 1898 ) was a Venezuelan military and political figure, President of the country in 1887–88 after the removal of General Antonio Guzmán Blanco from power.

Biography
Little is known about Lopez's childhood. He began military activities with the arrival of Jose Tadeo Monagas and his brother (1848-1858), participated in many battles of that time, after which he returned to agriculture.
Lopez became the head of the government of Carabobo after the election victory over General Gregorio Cadeno (May 1881). He took the post of president of Venezuela on August 8, 1887 due to the resignation of Guzmán Blanco .
The Provisional Government of Lopez had considerable support from the Liberal Party and society.
During his time at the head of the state, Lopez opened the railway line between Puerto Cabello and Valencia, in February 1888 the submarine cable was put into operation in Europe. In April of the same year, the remains of Jose Antonio Paez were returned to their homeland.
