History
On August 3, 1874, the Holy See established the apostolic prefecture of the Cape of Good Hope in the Central Province, separating it from the Apostolic Vicariate of the Cape of Good Hope in the Western Province (today, the Cape Town Archdiocese ).
On July 20, 1884, the apostolic prefecture of the Cape of Good Hope of the Central Province transferred part of its territory for the construction of the new apostolic prefecture of the Orange River (today - the Diocese of Keymus-Upington ).
On June 13, 1939, the apostolic prefecture of the Cape of Good Hope of the Central Province was renamed the Apostolic Prefecture of Oudtsourn.
On December 9, 1948, Pope Pius XII issued the bull “Ad altiorem dignitatis,” which transformed the apostolic prefecture of Oudtshurn into an apostolic vicar.
On January 11, 1951, Pope Pius XII issued the bull Suprema Nobis , which transformed the apostolic vicar into a diocese.
