Walter Hermann Schottky ( German Walter Hermann Schottky ; July 23, 1886 , Zurich , Switzerland - March 4, 1976 , Prezfeld , West Germany ) is a German physicist who invented an electronic lamp with a shielding grid in 1915 and in 1919 he made these discoveries. working in the Siemens & Halske research lab.

In 1924, he, together with E. Gerlach, invented a ribbon-type electrodynamic microphone .
From 1927 to 1951, he also worked for Siemens & Halske and Siemens-Schuckertwerke .
In 1935, he developed new ideas about the mechanism of formation of atomic vacancies in crystals . The defects obtained in this way are called “ Schottky defects ” in the literature [3] .
In 1938, Schottky formulated a theory predicting the Schottky effect , now used in Schottky diodes .
