Biography
Hawkins started playing basketball back in school, where he played for the local team and became the first African American star of the school. He was selected by the Minneapolis Lakers for the 1959 NBA Draft under the total number 3. In the NBA, Hawkins spent 10 seasons playing for the Lakers and the Cincinnati Royals .
At the end of his playing career, Hawkins worked as a radio and television commentator in Los Angeles, and also served as vice president of public relations at the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball club [1] .
