The status of the city since 1986 (before that, from the 1970s, it had the status of an urban-type settlement).
Halkabad lies in the eastern part of the Amu Darya delta, which is cut out by many channels here. Like many cities in the region, Halkabad is in the zone of ecological disaster, which is associated with the shallowing of the Aral Sea, which is reflected in the increased aridity of the climate. Literally ten kilometers to the east, the sands of the Taskuduk desert begin. Halkabad is the center of the agricultural region, where cereals and cotton are produced.
Halkabad has been known since the first half of the 19th century. Once here, at the Baganali canal, there was a fortress, which over time became overgrown with residential areas, madrassas, a library and administrative institutions.
