Early Period

The first contacts of Poles with Muslims took place in the 13th century, during the Mongol-Tatar invasion , and already in the 14th century the Tatars settled on the territory of modern Poland (see Polish-Lithuanian Tatars ). From the large number of Arab coins found in numerous archaeological excavations, one can judge the close contact of Arab merchants with this region [2] .

In the XIV century, the first Tatar tribes settled on the lands of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania . The Tatars were allowed to maintain their religion in exchange for an obligation to perform military service. In the XV century, the Tatar cavalry, arrows and reconnaissance troops took part in many battles. In the famous Battle of Grunwald on the side of Vytautas , Tatars took part under the command of Jalal ad-Din-khan .

XX century

In the Second Polish Republic, the Muslim community was apparently small. According to official figures, in 1933 there were 16 mosques in Poland [3] .
