Hassan Taufik ( Arabic حسن توفيق ; August 31, 1943 , Cairo , British Protectorate Egypt - June 30, 2014 ) - Egyptian writer, poet and literary critic, author of several literary works and publications in philology, laureate of several state awards, member of the Writers' Union of Egypt . The poetic pseudonym “Majnun al-Arab” is a reference to the story in the Middle East, the story of Majnun’s unhappy love (the uzrit poet Kais ibn al-Mulyavvah) to his cousin Leyla. [2]

Biography
In 1965 he graduated from the Faculty of Philology of the University of Cairo, receiving a bachelor's degree, [3] and after some time, in 1978 received a master's degree in Arabic literature (Department of Arabic, Faculty of Literature). [3] [4]
The first collection of poems by Hassan Taufik, “Blood in the gardens” (الدم في الحدائق), came out a few years after graduating from the university - in 1969, and soon, in 1970, the first literary-critical article was written, called “The main trends in free verse ”(اتجاهات الشعر الحر).
The young poet quickly integrated into the literary circles of the country, at the same time letting him know about himself and abroad. In 1966, Hassan Taufik became a member of the Writers' Union of Egypt, in 1967 joined the Cairo Writing Circle, and from 1971 began its activities in the Cairo Union of New Literature. In parallel, H. Taufik participated in a number of specialized conferences, literary forums, was interested in journalism, in 1979 worked as an editor of the cultural section in the Qatari magazine “Ar-Ray”. I will never forget that thanks to the Egyptian Writers' Union, representatives of my generation managed to get acquainted with such outstanding figures in the cultural and literary process as Salah Abd al-Sabur , Faruk Khorshid, Abdelgufar Makyawi, Izzuddin Ismail, Hussein Nisar, Abdelkader al-Kit, Abdarrahman Ash-Sharkawi, Ahmad Kemal Zaki Ahmad Hussein Al-Saui, Muhammad Abdel Wahid, Malek Abdelaziz ...
Fruitful work in the field of culture could not bear its fruits - in 1990 and 1991 he won two honorary awards - the Egyptian State Prize for the best poetic sofa and the Abdelaziz Saud International Prize for the Best Kasud, respectively.
The writer's works for today are recognized not only in his homeland, but also in other countries of the region and the whole world. In particular, a number of literary works by Hassan Taufik has been translated into European languages - French, English and Spanish. Unfortunately, poetry translations do not exist today.
In the preface to his poetic collection “Pink glitter”, H. Taufik in the context of literary and aesthetic views called the famous Egyptian poet Salah Abd Al-Sabur his “spiritual father”.
Characteristics of creativity
Several factors influenced the literary style of Hassan Taufik.
First of all, this is a philological education. The author is fluent in the literary Arabic language, but in places deliberately inserts passages in the Egyptian dialect. The themes of the works often refer the reader to the Arabic classics - the poet's work is filled with allusions to the poems of Abu Teyyib al-Mutanabbi, Imru l-Qais, Abu l-Ala al-Ma'ari and others.
The second factor is frequent trips of Hassan Taufik abroad, both to Europe (Spain), Asia (Japan), and to other Arab countries (Lebanon, Qatar, Iraq). The works of the Egyptian poet are full of love for their homeland - the Arab world. The Arab world for Hassan Taufik is not limited to his native Egypt (the poem “Night in Alexandria”), the author with love and pain speaks also about Iraq (the poem “Confession of Love Basra” and “Confession of Love Baghdad). Also, H. T. avoids the popular opposition of the East to the West, emphasizing that there is more in common between these two worlds than it seems at first glance.
Similar conformity is also characteristic of the poetry of Hassan Taufik himself. In his heritage, the author tries to combine the traditions of the Arab Qasida with a variety of forms of European verse.
The theme of the poems of Hassan Taufik is diverse. These are patriotic poems, love poems, and rhymed passages on the topic of the day. However, the most interesting for an erudite reader, who speaks Arabic, may be a cycle of works, allusions to the Arabic classics, as mentioned above, as well as references to famous historical figures. The author does not combine the poems of this direction into a separate thematic collection, but their stylistics can be traced quite clearly, sometimes it is even noticeable in the title of the work: “Hitler's Monologue” (هتلر يتكلم), Imrul-Qays Monologue (أمرؤ القيس يتكلم), Antara Bnu Shaddad asks: What could be more amazing than a TV? ”(عنترة بن شداد يتكلم ما أعجب التلاف من متكلم).
The construction of the poems of this cycle is usually similar. Hassan Taufik introduces into the poem a well-known historical figure of the past, which, guided by the attitudes and stereotypes of his era, talks about the present day. As a rule, these arguments are pessimistic: Hassan Taufik puts criticism of the vices of modern society into a stationary hero.
Author publications, translation of works to other languages
Despite the fact that the work of Hassan Taufik is popular in the Arab world, his work is not available to the Russian-speaking audience, due to the lack of translation of poetry into Russian.
Literary studies on the works of Hassan Taufik are also few. In addition to Kirpichenko, in Russia the work of this author has hardly been explored. In Ukraine, the legacy of Hasan Taufik was considered by A. Slomchinskaya and S. V. Rybalkin.
