Kunaev Street ( Kaz. Қonaev аты ғ ғ ө ө ) is one of the main streets in the city of Almaty .

Location
Kunayev Street is located in the Medeu District , between Valikhanov (Krasin) and Tulebaev Streets. It starts from Raimbek Avenue , crosses the streets of Zhibek Zholy (formerly Gorky), Gogol , Tole bi , Bogenbai batyr (Kirova), Kabanbai batyr (Kalinina), Shevchenko , Kurmangazy and ends with Abay Avenue. Length 3050 m. [1]
History
Kunayev Street was formed at the end of the 19th century; on it were shops of merchants and buyers, workshops of artisans. The street is rich in historical and revolutionary events, associated with the names of the heroes of the revolution and the Civil War D. Furmanov , B. Shegabutdinov, R. Marechek, T. Bokin. On Kunaev Street, protests of soldier-women against the imperialist war were held, the first May Day demonstration of the working people of the Soviet Faithful.
Name Origin
Initially, until June 1919 it was called Kapalskaya. In Soviet times, from June 1919 it was renamed in honor of the founder of scientific communism, Karl Marx . In the 1990s, renamed in honor of the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Kazakh SSR Kunaev [2]
Gardening and Landscaping
In Soviet years, the street was reconstructed and landscaped, planted with deciduous trees such as: oak, poplar, elm. Public gardens were created at the bust of D. A. Kunaev, in front of the buildings of the Alatau Cinema, the Otrar Hotel and the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Noteworthy buildings and structures
It was built up with 3-5-storey residential and administrative buildings, which in Soviet times housed: the Ministry of Social Security, the Research Institute of Organic Catalysis and Electrochemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR, the Central Committee of the Red Cross , the Republican House of Health Education, the regional House of Teachers, Republican House of Models, Hat Factory, Almagul company for knitting and individual sewing of knitwear, Kazakhstan company for individual sewing and repair of clothes, and Kazpotrebsoyuz Hotel.
The National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan and the fire department of the Medeu District are also located on Kunaev Street.
Monuments and Busts
In front of the western entrance to the park to them. A monument to the bust of Tokash Bokin was erected by 28 Panfilov guardsmen . Sculptor - B.A. Abishev, architect - Sh. E. Valikhanov. A bronze bust of Dinmukhamed Kunaev was installed in the square on the street. Sculptors - T. S. Dosmagambetov, A. B. Tatarinov, architects - A. K. Kapanov, S. E. Valikhanov, I. Ya. Tokar, B. V. Dmitrievsky.
In the square on the western side of the building of the Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan, a monument to Alkey Margulanu from Korday granite, sculptor N. Dalbai, is installed.

Transport
On the street until 2015 (inclusive) there was a tram route.
- Tram number 4 : Starts and ends at Aksay station. It passes through the streets of Momyshuly, Tole bi, Baitursynova, Shevchenko, Kunaev, Makatayev, Zhetysuyskaya, Arykova, Cherkasskaya defense, Turgenskaya (with access to Zhetysuskaya).
The tram is not functioning now.
