Andrzej Kupczyk was born on October 26, 1948 in Swidnica , Lower Silesian Voivodeship . He became interested in sports as a child, joining a local athletics club, and soon began to go to various international competitions, as a middle distance runner was selected for the national team. He first visited major competitions in 1969, when he went to the adult European Championship and took the sixth place in the 800 m race. A year later, in the European championship indoors, in the same discipline was already the fifth, and a year later he won a bronze medal [1] .

As for the national championship, for the period 1971–1973, Kupchyk became the champion of Poland at a distance of 800 m three times in a row, and in 1970 won the 1500 m race [2] . The most eventful year for him was 1972, when, first, in July at the stadium, Bislett set his personal record at the eight-meter distance (1: 46 minutes), and second, he won another bronze medal at the European Championship (in the 4 x 720 m relay) [3] , thirdly, he won the right to defend the honor of the country at the Summer Olympics in Munich , where he subsequently finished seventh.

After graduating from the career of a professional athlete, Andrzej Kupchik worked as a coach, first in the country's track and field athletics, then in the bobsleigh. He currently holds the position of head coach of the Polish bobsled team, including being the personal trainer of his son David , a successful pilot who has already attended four Olympics.
