History
She was born in the family of Yuri (Georgy) Olshansky (Golshansky) from Dubrovitsy , one of the generous benefactors of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, a famous military leader, who fought the Tatars more than once.
Juliana lived a short life and died at the age of 16. The body of the princess was buried near the Great Lavra Church.
The Orthodox tradition ascribes virtues to Saint Juliana that correspond to her age, gender, and rank: chastity, obedience to parents, a favorable attitude towards the lower ones, and especially the affairs of Christian charity. Indeed, during her life on earth, a young girl discovered high Christian qualities, observing God's commandments, and experienced the pinnacle of spiritual perfection.
At the beginning of the 17th century (under Archimandrite Elisey Pletenetsky ), in Kiev, near the large cathedral church of the Pechersk, they dug a grave for the dead girl and came upon a coffin. A silver plate was attached to it with the inscription: “Juliana, Princess Olshanskaya, daughter of Prince George Olshansky, who was reposed as a virgin, the 16th from birth .” When they opened the coffin, they saw the princess - imperishable. The coffin with the body of the princess was then transferred to the church.
At the time of Metropolitan of Kiev, Galitsky, and All Russia of Peter the Grave , a new cancer was made for the holy relics because in a dream it appeared to the archimandrite and reproached him for disbelief and neglect of her relics. It was then that an inscription was made on her tomb: “By the will of the Creator of heaven and earth, lives in all the years of Yulania, helper and great intercessor in Heaven. Here the bones are healing against all the sufferings ... Rai's village is decorated with itself, Juliana is like a beautiful flower ... ”.
Preserved the story of an unusual event that occurred with the relics of the holy virgin. Once, an attacker, an Arian , named Basil, came to the Pechersk Church under the guise of a true believer. He pretended that he was going to visit holy places and worship the relics of the saints of the Pechersk. In the church, he asked for permission to worship the relics of St. Juliana, that is, to open the shrine with her relics, his request was granted, and he sank to her hand. But when he came out of the temple, he suddenly cried out in a terrible wild voice and fell dead. When they examined the body of the villain, it turned out that he had removed the ring from the finger of the princess’s hand, for which he had been punished. Since then, the Orthodox Church began to glorify Juliana.
Many miracles and gracious healings took place in the shrine of the relics of Saint Juliana.
One day, the holy virgin Juliana appeared to the hegumen of the Kiev St. Michael Monastery and told him: “I am Juliana, whose relics lie in the Pechersk church. You think my power is nothing. For this, the Lord sends you a sign, so that you understand that I am, by the Lord God, attached to the holy virgins who pleased Him. ” Since then, the veneration of St. Juliana increased even more.
The relics of Juliana were partially burned in 1718 during a fire in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra [2] . Their remains were placed in a crayfish and placed in the Near Caves of the Lavra.
The Orthodox Church so glorifies the holy virgin: “... I bring to You, the All-Bountiful, Iulania, a candle that is constantly bright, possessing an abundance of oil; with her prayers save us from all evil ”...
The holy righteous virgin Juliana became the second of the holy wives of Russia, who were honored to be buried in the Lavra caves. On the icons, St. Juliana is depicted in the Cathedral of the Holy Fathers of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. She is the intercessor of the women, along with other saints before the Most Pure Mother of God and together with Her, before the Throne of the Holy Trinity. She is the intercessor of innocent virgins.
