Taylor Hall is the first and so far the only hockey player who managed to win the prize twice. [2]
At the beginning of the 2013/14 season, 18 times the trophy was received by players of teams representing the Western Hockey League , 13 - the Ontario Hockey League and 11 - the Quebec Main Junior Hockey League . [3]
Most often, the Stafford Smythe Memorial Trophy was received by the Kamloops Blazers players - 6 times (3 as the Blazers and 3 when the team was called New Westminster Bruins) and Cornwall Royals - 6 times.
6 players won the trophy, despite the fact that their teams lost in the Cup final: Barry Smith (1975), Bart Hunter (1979), Sean McKenna (1982), Cameron Mann (1996), Chris Madden (1998) and Danny Gro (2002 )
The trophy is named after Stafford Smythe , son of Conn Smythe . Stafford was a member of a group that bought a controlling stake in the National Hockey League 's Toronto Maple Leafs club in 1961. [4] The Smythe family donated the CHL trophy in 1972, shortly after his death. [five]
