Finkel, Raphael

Rafael Finkel ( Raphael Finkel ; 1951, Chicago , USA ) - American scientist in the field of computer science , professor at the University of Kentucky . He is the author of the network encyclopedic dictionary of hacker slang “ Jargon File ”, “An Operating Systems Vade Mecum”, a book on operating systems, as well as “Advanced Programming Language Design”, an introductory book on programming paradigms . Rafael Finkel and John Bentley are the authors of the quad tree data structure .

Biography

Finkel was born in Chicago . He entered the University of Chicago , where he received a bachelor's degree in mathematics and a master's degree in pedagogy . He then received a PhD from Stanford University under the supervision of Winton Cerf .

Finkel got a seat at the University of Wisconsin in Madison after completing his doctorate and stayed there from 1976 until 1987 - until he got a job at the University of Kentucky.
